What we Teach
Bring your Bible and Prayer - We believe that Sunday school is only an extension of what our kids learn at home. A typcial day in our classroom involves lots of interaction with the students. We stress that each young person bring his or her Bible regularly and we open every class with prayer requests. We teach the kids that there are two kinds of requests - specific and unspoken and both types are good and right before God. We know that if God is going to be real to our young people, it has to start with teaching them the value of petitioning our Lord with requests from the heart. We also encourage them to always be listening to God's responses. While they may not be immediate, we assure our youth that those most intimate requests will be answered in due time - and when they are, we constantly remind them that 'he was the only one who knew of them.
Bible Verses - The way to teach our youth the power and love of God is to teach them his word and to help them to hide it in their hearts. The spoken word of God becomes real when we claim it from within. Some of our favorite verses are: Phillipians 4:13, James 1:12, John 1:3, and Romans 10:9.
1st Down & 10 - We encourage the youth to include their parents and siblings in reading God's word in what we call, 1st Down and 10 (after the football term). What that is, is having students read at least one chapter per day, out of God's word at home along with other family members.
Bible Questions and Answers - Another really great way to teach God's word is to ask specific questions on a routine basis. We've found that students love the competitive challenge of learning to answer specfiic questions about God's word. As a matter of fact, they truly thrive on them!
Chapter reading - Finally, we round out our Sunday school hour with a weekly Bible story. There simply is no substitute for direct reading of God's word and frequent interjections and footnotes.
Last, we want your young people to know that God is not only real, but that he seeks a relationship with them. It's only wihen God becomes friend, Lord, and savior, that we truly grow in wisdom, in knowledge, and stature.
